Congratulations Elinor Barker
Congratulations to Elinor Barker on winning the Team Pursuit at the World Track Championship in Minsk. Along with Olympic Champions Laura Trott and Dani King they qualified fastest in 3.18.704 to set up a Gold medal race against Australia. In the final they won by almost 0.5 seconds. This is an even greater achievement as the British trio had only started training together in January.
The 2013 World Championships was the last time the event was ridden by a three people over 3000m, in future it will be four people racing over 4000m.
The World Championship is in addition to a glittering palmares which has many great wins on the Track and Road.
With this being Elinor’s first season as a Senior the future is looking very bright indeed. The Club is extremely proud to have been be part of Elinor’s development and we all look forward to following her progress in years to come.
GB Head Coach Shane Sutton commented on the team’s performance saying “If you’re working from platforms and datums and whatever, if you look to where we were at the beginning of the last Olympic cycle, I think we’re in a much stronger position, a much healthier position, you can virtually name your team for Rio now. I think this team is heading towards greatness in four years’ time. They’re joined already as a team, they’re a very young squad, and they all get on, they’re all on the same page. It’s quite exciting from my point of view and Dave’s [Brailsford] point of view to see us come here and see us perform with this particular squad. If we continue working hard, we will continue to medal well at world championships. That’s what the world championships is about.”
