Betty Pharoah Memorial Road Races 2017 – Llandow Fire and Road Closures

Betty Pharoah Memorial Road Races 2017 – Llandow Fire and Road Closures

You may have heard the news regarding the ongoing issues around Llandow due to a large fire at the Recycling Plant which has been burning since a week last Thursday, 2nd March. Smoke from the fire has been causing low visibility on surrounding roads depending on the wind direction. This has resulted in the B4270 Llantwit Major road being intermittently closed between Llandow Circuit and Llantwit Major roundabout for road safety reasons.

We have been working with, and are very grateful for the support we’ve received from, South Wales Police, Vale of Glamorgan Council, Welsh Cycling and the National Escort Group to try to form a viable alternative course or detour as a backup plan should the road be closed on race day, Sunday 12th March.

We are pleased to say that after much hard work we have managed to come up with a backup plan that all parties are happy with and endorse. We are happy to confirm that as things currently stand (and unless there is a significant deterioration of the incident) the race will go ahead.

The backup plan will be shared with riders on race day should we need to implement it.

We will continue to communicate with Vale of Glamorgan Council who control the road closures. Should the situation change we will communicate this to all riders by email, post on our website (www.CardiffAjaxCycling.co.uk) and Twitter ( @CardiffAjaxCC ).
